I focus on doing landscape and still life paintings in collage, oils, soft pastels, and watercolor. When feasible, I like to start a painting outside to appreciate the setting of the landscape and capture the feeling I want to convey in my work. Painting allows me to appreciate the beauty and subtleties of nature. Not only does the beauty of nature bring joy to my heart and soul, but by visually studying the phenomena of the physical world, I gain appreciation for what the earth has to offer. It allows me to free my mind of everyday problems and concentrate on what I see. Sometimes it is in my search for simplicity in nature that I see beautiful complexities. Learning how to approach nature in my art and simplify its complexity on canvas or paper will always be my challenge.
